Network License Control
Network License Control

Overview

The CRYPTO-BOX License Control System allows you to license your applications effectively in network environments by controlling the number of copies running simultaneously on the net.*

The CRYPTO-BOX USB XS and XL and the CRYPTO-BOX 560/Net contain a hardware implemented license counter. By programming this counter and connecting a CRYPTO-BOX device to any computer in the network you can protect your applications, allowing your application to run simultaneously with no more than the predefined number of copies from LAN computers. For instance, if the license counter was set to 5 the application can be run 5 times in the network - no matter if the clients are normal PCs or Terminal Server clients.

* To limit the number of network licenses, a CRYPTO-BOX USB XS/XL is required. The CRYPTO-BOX USB Versa provides network support with unlimited licenses only.

License Control System (LCS®)

The Network Server (contained in MARX Professional Protection Kit) should be launched on those LAN computer(s) to which CRYPTO-BOX device(s) with preprogrammed license counters are connected. If the proper CRYPTO-BOX is found the application (client) can open it using corresponding API calls.

The Server Management Console (contained in MARX Professional Protection Kit) provides LAN administrators with a convenient way of monitoring its status, the attached CRYPTO-BOX, connected clients, etc.

License Control System for configuring user limits

The License Control System (LCS) is supported by the CRYPTO-BOX USB XS/XL and 560/Net models. This feature for license management in a network allows you to limit the number of users that can concurrently access an application that has been protected with a CRYPTO-BOX. To use a CRYPTO-BOX in a network, you need to configure it with a valid user limit between 0 and 254. The value 255 is reserved for unlimited use ("Floating License"); it ensures that there is at least ONE CRYPTO-BOX present in the network. If you want to change (increase) the number of licenses for your clients, they do not need to send back their CRYPTO-BOX: the license counter can be reprogrammed using Remote Update Management System (RUMS).

If you have a CRYPTO-BOX USB Versa, you can set the network license counter either to 0 (no network functionality) or 255 (unlimited network licenses). All other values are ignored.
