Overview

Remote Update allows you to update your end-users CRYPTO-BOX® content without shipping the CRYPTO-BOX itself from the end-user to you and back. You can reprogram/update the following values inside the CRYPTO-BOX memory:
- Dataobjects with licensing options, such as Expiration Date, Usage Counter or Application Password
- Network licenses*
- Individual memory objects, such as License Keys
For all transactions, encrypted configuration profiles are used. Simply submit these profiles via the Internet, Email or Fax. You can test Remote Update with the CRYPTO-BOX USB Evaluation Kit. For your customer specific CRYPTO-BOX, Remote Update is optionally available (have a look at the Product Catalog).
* To update network licenses, you need a CRYPTO-BOX USB XS, XL. You can find more information about network licenses under License Control System (LCS®).

How does Remote Update work?

Remote Update is what you will use when you wish to remotely update the content of a CRYPTO-BOX that is in the possession of an end-user. The advantage of this method is that the CRYPTO-BOX itself does not have to be shipped back and forth.
The whole process of the remote update works as follows:
- The end-user runs RUpdate Tool to generate a Transaction Key.
- You (the software vendor) receive the Transaction Key, process it in the Remote Update Manager to get an Activation Code, and send the Activation Code to the end-user.
- When the end-user receives the Activation Code, he feeds it to the RUpdate Tool and updates his CRYPTO-BOX.

What is a Transaction Key?

When an end-user generates a request to change the memory content of his/her CRYPTO-BOX, i.e., upon starting a Transaction, he/she gets an encrypted sequence, which is called Transaction Key. This Transaction Key is sent to you, the software vendor, and you use it to generate an encrypted sequence for the end-user called an Activation Code.

What is an Activation Code?

Once you have received a Transaction Key from your end-user, you can create the Activation Code. This code contains information about the changes you want to apply to the end-users CRYPTO-BOX. Upon receiving the Activation Code, the end-user will run it through the RUpdate Tool to physically update their CRYPTO-BOX.
