Presentation of the next-generation CRYPTO-BOX 2
Munich, 3 March 2008 - Revolution followed by evolution: MARX, expert for software protection and secure authentication, is going to supplement its successful security solution CRYPTO-BOX with a successor product: CRYPTO-BOX 2. Based on state-of-the-art smart card technology and using a chip that conforms with the Common Criteria EAL4+ Certification, software protection enters a new era.  The Common Criteria procedure (ISO standard 15408) was developed as a security software standard that is recognized world-wide.

"Thanks to the smart card technology, CRYPTO-BOX 2 meets the highest security standards in existence. Therefore, successfully attacking the CRYPTO-BOX 2 hardware is next to impossible. Actually, to my knowledge, this never happened with the old CRYPTO-BOX USB either. The EAL4+ certification is an important seal for the security of our hardware," says Philipp Marx, the company's founder.

Using AutoCrypt, CRYPTO-BOX 2 can be integrated into existing Windows EXE or DLL files within minutes – complete with encryption and debugging protection. No programming expertise or source codes are required. In addition, licensing options such as execution counter, runtime, or network licenses can be specified, and dialog windows showing licensing information may be customized. With integration through the powerful Smarx API, CRYPTO-BOX 2 allows software developers to implement platform independent individual licensing strategies under Windows, Linux, or MacOS.
Qt4 support facilitates cross-platform development and easy software maintenance.

Only one single CRYPTO-BOX 2 is needed for license management in networks – making protection particularly cost-efficient. The number of workstations in a network where the protected software can run is thus solely determined by the software manufacturer. CRYPTO-BOX 2 provides network support at no extra cost.

The SmarxOS® Application Framework offers license management which is extremely flexible and very easy to use. Applications and documents can be automatically protected fast and easily. In addition, the SmarxOS® Application Framework allows software developers to define data objects with licensing options for integration via API. Moreover, multiple different applications can be protected through one single CRYPTO-BOX 2. All licensing and update information is stored in a central customer database. License extension, unlocking additional application options, or network licenses: with Remote Update, CRYPTO-BOX 2 can be updated fast and conveniently via the Internet.

CRYPTO-BOX 2 is scheduled for release in October 2008. Another feature will be RSA encryption in hardware, which is of special importance for safe updates and user authentication, e. g. in web applications. Later versions will also be offered with Flash memory in different sizes.

Features:
  • Smart card chip for maximum security
  • RSA support implemented in hardware - for safe authentication, safe updates, etc.
  • Multiple platform support: Windows, Linux, Mac OS
  • Network capable, remote programming, updatable
  • Automatic protection of Windows applications with AutoCrypt, or individual integration for all common programming environments including .NET
